Maintenance of Centrifugal Fans During Shutdown

2026-10-09 Views:4

Proper maintenance is essential to ensure the safe operation of centrifugal fans and extend their service life. Therefore, sufficient attention must be paid to the operation and maintenance of fans. Below are the maintenance precautions for centrifugal fans when they are out of service.

Storage and Maintenance of Centrifugal Fans During Shutdown

There are two scenarios for centrifugal fan shutdown: short-term shutdown and long-term shutdown. Regardless of the shutdown duration, we would like to remind you to guard against frost cracking.

When the fan is shut down and the ambient temperature is below 5℃, residual water inside the equipment and pipelines shall be drained to prevent frost damage to equipment and pipelines. This is similar to the freezing and cracking of water pipes in winter. Failures caused by failure to drain residual water in a timely manner are avoidable and stem from negligence.

How to maintain centrifugal fans during shutdown?

What should be done for long-term shutdown?

1. Apply anti-rust oil to the surfaces of bearings and other key components to prevent corrosion.

2. Manually rotate the fan rotor by half a turn (180°) about every two weeks. Mark the shaft end before rotation so that the point originally at the top moves to the bottom after rotating the rotor.

The above maintenance measures are only for proper storage of centrifugal fans during shutdown. Before putting the fan back into operation, a simple inspection shall be carried out to check the fan condition for any faults. Do not restart the fan until everything is confirmed normal.
